Who Cares?

Hey you guys! I hope you had an awesome weekend! I’m going to share a few photo snapshots of what my weekend was like, but before then, I wanted to bring to your attention an awesome new pilot for a project that Mikey, RoadWest Pictures and Centre Pin Media are collaborating on. These guys have worked together on many projects and this one might be one of the most impactful projects yet as they have the opportunity to get funded by the TELUS Fund in Canada to help showcase caregivers and their stories.

Mikey has produced and been a part of many films about cancer for families, young adults, and older adults in the form of helping them create digital stories over the years. But this storyline is different as we showcase not necessarily those who are walking through the difficulty of an illness themselves, but their caregivers, who often don’t feel like they have a story to share at all. Sue is an excellent example of this and most definitely has a story worth sharing. I think there’s also more of a universal appeal in these storylines too because it’s not cancer-specific, and many of us have been a caregiver to someone else in our lives over the years or watched caregivers tirelessly giving of themselves to others.

I encourage you to take 10 minutes to watch this video and please, like it and share at this link! Their video is the photo of a black screen with the words, “Who Cares: Helping Caregivers Find Their Place in the Story” and you can watch and vote there – no email or info needed!

We’d love you to tweet or Facebook and encourage others to vote too. In order for them to get funded for the rest of the series, they need lots of votes to get them to the top three pilots to then be selected to get funded. We ask for your help in this as we really believe that this trio has the skills, compassion and experience to share with Canada caregiver stories in a meaningful way and help caregivers learn what their personal stories are in a life-changing way. Thanks for taking the time to support them – we look forward to more stories about caregivers across Canada!

And here’s a quick look at my weekend while Mikey was away in Edmonton for work (actually teaching a digital story telling workshop to a group of survivors!):

Ohhh yeah! My friend Steph brought donuts back from a trip to Edmonton (from the Doughnut Party!) and they.were.awesome! Erinn came over and the three of us cut them up into small bites and had some from every donut, which included: fruit punch, passionfruit, coconut, lemon fritter, (I think this was my fave!), birthday cake, and classic vanilla (all from bottom left clockwise). What a fun Saturday surprise!

Getting ready for the Inglewood Kitchen Party! Just showing that I’m out of fitness clothes, wearing lipstick, but going pretty casual with my hair and clothes – I don’t really go any other way. It was a fun night with great food, a band who played the best cover songs, lots of getting to know people in our new community here, and a great way to support the after school program!

And now – it’s May! And what a beautiful day it is! Grateful that a new month is welcoming us with gorgeous weather today in Calgary. A new month (and one that starts on a Monday!) is a great time to reassess your goals and work on new habits. I’m continuing to work on my water drinking (it’s been so tough during pregnancy as compared to before I got pregnant!).   I am also recommitting to reading a book more – I have two on the go and I want to make reading more of a priority in my daily life.  .

Any habits or goals you’re working on or weekend updates? Did you watch the video? Please let us know what you think of it.

Have a great start to May, friends! Live well & be well,

Bonnie
