Friday Favourites + Mini Grocery Haul

Hey guys and happy Friday! How was your week? Mine was good but long – I’m happy it’s Friday but already feeling like I’m ready for a night with no plans (which isn’t happening, ha!) and a sleep in (not tomorrow) – but that’s okay, because I’ve got some Friday favorites to focus on! So without further ado…. Here’s a few things I’m loving this week + a mini grocery haul video at the end of the post!

Awesome weather in Calgary. When you have many months of winter, you sure appreciate the change of seasons! From mornings on our deck to the length of light well past 9 pm, spring/summer in the north is pretty awesome.

Okay. You ready for this blend of goodness?! Let’s do it.

Workouts. I’m so grateful I’ve been able to keep up with my training during my pregnancy. I’m actually JUST starting to feel a tightness in my belly and uncomfortableness now, which makes me think it’s going to be a long few months! I think it’s the baby experiencing a growth spurt, but since I’ve never grown a human before it’s hard to tell what I’m feeling!

Here’s what I did yesterday:

10 Rounds: 30 sec rest between each exercise

  • 10 DB Cleans (#20)

  • 10 DB Step Ups (#20)

Followed by:

5 Rounds: with a few deep breaths between movements

  • 10 Alternating DB Snatches (30#)

  • 10 Side Plank Hip Raises/side

Short, sweet, but definitely effective! Any good workouts from the week to share on your end?!

What Flexible Dieting IS and ISN’T. This image from SoheeFit’s Instagram really shows what flexible dieting is – the freedom there is but also what the ratio of “healthy” versus “junk” foods (although I dislike labeling foods, you know what I mean!) looks like and should be.

(Get it?!)

I really like one of the points she makes about this:

“The truth is, you don’t HAVE to eat junk food to be a flexible dieter. The above side-by-side visual is just one example of how it can be done correctly and incorrectly. You are actively exercising choice in what foods you do and do not eat – and there is autonomy in that. If you eat chicken breast and rice with broccoli, it’s because you choose to, not because you have to. If you eat a cookie, you’re not breaking any rules.” Solid stuff!

My dad is coming Sunday from California to paint the exterior of our home! Lots of things to continue to be grateful for and to get excited about, and while this is a mainly working trip for him, we cant wait for the time together!

BirthFit on Instagram. I am so inspired by this community of pregnant and post-partum women training and staying fit, and get some great ideas for workouts from these guys! I like browsing their website and also listen to the BirthFit Podcast – some good stuff there is this applies to you where you’re at in your life.

(all smiles after some fun times on the river together – being outside sure brings Mikey and I together!)

Community. Man, we really are blessed by the people in our lives. We’ve been so busy lately that it’s been tough to get together with people and connect, but judging by the amount of people who showed up to help us move, and by our weekly date having dinner and sharing about life with another couple, Mikey and I just feel really supported lately. We are so grateful for our community and, even with ebbs and flows in friendship and phases of busyness versus time spent with others, we feel the love.

Smoothies and fresh fruit. Anyone else excited about cooler foods for warmer weather days and the return of fresh fruit?! We can’t get enough strawberries lately, which leads me to the next thing…

Mini Grocery Haul. I actually love seeing what people buy at the store, even though my mom would probably roll my eyes at this.  So this week I thought I’d film a mini, mid-week grocery haul for you guys for those like me who like to see what’s in people’s fridges!

So that’s about all I’ve got for you on this Friday! Any fun weekend plans? We are going to the opening night of the Victor Walk documentary (that our friend Amber is a part of) and tomorrow I am most likely attending the National Strength & Conditioning Alberta Provincial Clinic with some pretty amazing speakers lined up here at CityFit. With my dad arriving Sunday and feeling just extra tired today (Friday), I feel like I could use a day to not be anywhere or engaging my brain first thing in the morning, so I’m trying to make a decision on that front. But I’m grateful for good resources coming to Calgary – normally speakers go to Toronto or possibly Vancouver, so I also don’t want to miss it!

So, leave me with some of your Friday favorites and a staple you pick up during your mini grocery hauls, and I’ll catch ya on the flip side! Live well & be well,

Bonnie
