Juicing with SPUD (.ca)
Fresh-pressed juice…YUM. But who has time for it? Is it worth the effort to put together, gather ingredients and clean up afterward? And what about all that fiber – isn’t it better to eat the WHOLE fruit and vegetable? These are thoughts I had before I began juicing. I hadn’t had much experience with juicing save for a few weeks when Mikey and I went juice crazy while living at his parents’ home and took over their juicer. Other than that, it always just seemed a bit cumbersome to me and I assumed we’d never end up purchasing one anyways. So imagine my surprise when, after stealing (borrowing?) my in-laws’ juicer while they were away on holidays for 3 weeks, I was contacted with the opportunity to JUICE with a local company who delivers organic produce to your doorstep! …where do I sign up?!
A little background: The company who reached out to me, SPUD, is a that was founded on the premise that there was a better, more sustainable and more convenient way to connect people with their local farmers and food producers. The food comes from the farm to the SPUD warehouse to the retailers online with SPUD to your table. SPUD is currently located in 6 urban areas in North America: Vancouver, Victoria, Nanaimo, Calgary Seattle, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
For about 2 months, Mikey and I tried a similar service that delivered local, organic food to your door and loved the idea of it but decided we would switch to buying more seasonal vegetables and stay in the grocery store to keep our cost down. We always wanted to try it out again, so when I heard from SPUD I was pretty excited to learn more and check out their juicing program. There are 6 different juicing boxes to choose from (including the Seasonal Juicing Box, Detox Juicing Box and Juicing For Kids Box to name a few); I chose the Dynamic Beauty Juicing Box (enough for 20 glasses of juice!) as our starter box.
A few things to share:
- A representative from SPUD.ca reached out to me as a local Calgary blogger to help test out their new juicing program!
- I was provided with my own juicer to keep as compensation for blogging about my experience with the SPUD’s new organic juicing services.
- As always, all opinions expressed are honest and my own.
Okay…now down to the nitty gritty! Here’s a video I put together of our first time using the Hurom Slow Juicer and my initial thoughts:
Today I felt full from the juice and a cup of coffee from about 8:45 am until noon when I ate lunch – not bad! Mikey said the same for him, but he’s absent-minded while working and could work through every meal (unlike me!).
Do you juice? From your first impression, is this a service you would invest in if it was offered to you?
More thoughts to come with different juicing boxes and recipes! So far, so good.
Have a great afternoon and keep that energy up whether you’re juicing, eating whole foods or slurping smoothies. Keep it lean and green and I’ll catch you on the flip side!
Live well & be well,
Bonnie

I’m very curious about juicing, but have never tried it myself. For now, I’ve been soaking up the information about it from you, Mizfit, and other bloggers that have talked about it recently.

Yes – lots of info to soak up. And this isn’t my only post – more to come on my experience next week!
Love it lady!!! I love juicing, it’s so great that their company has blends for juicing! That’s so genius.
Man you make me want to juice…that looked so so good!
ALSO I loved your hair in that new little style! You look GREAT!
mom
I love juicing! I have a Breville that my hubby got me for Christmas last year, and I love to experiment with different fruits and veggies. I’m not sure if I would invest in having a supply delivered to me or not…I guess it would depend on affordability. I have a great local farmers market, so I usually try to get produce from there when i can.
i LOVE juicing!! Bought my Blendtec and I can make whole juices with it – best way to start any day!
(ps your hair looks adorable!)

You’ve made me want to try whole juices! So great. Also, thanks for the hair compliment – it really makes me feel good!
You have a juicer and a local farmer’s market? Then you’re set!
Really? Awww thanks mom! It’s the knotted style. I’m on day 2.
Everyone at the gym thinks I cut my hair, or that it’s naturally curly and I usually straighten my dreads! haha! Thanks for your word – makes me feel better!
Yeah! What a great concept, hey? Thanks for the comment and for stopping by!
Wow! I had no idea Spud.ca had a juicing program!! Lucky you to be able to test it out
I love juicing, but yes it is time consuming… I’ve been drinking a lot of smoothies as a result during the week! Seems like the program takes the guess work out of what to buy and how much. I seem to buy too much of one thing, only to run out of others so the balance isn’t right. I’ll have to check them out for sure!

Totally agree – the problem for me is in the quantities of buying food and what to buy (I’d never think to get mint or things like that aside from the basics like spinach, apples, kale, citrus and beets, for example)… Definitely a plus I didn’t mention! …want to come over for a juice brunch one Saturday?!
Oh my goodness, what a great opportunity!! I love the idea behind this service – and even better that you got a juicer to test it out with.
